In Germany, this year’s World Breastfeeding Week will take place from 29 September to 5 October 2025 under the motto ‘You decide. Not advertising.’
The AGF Family organisations support the World Breastfeeding Week and refer to the joint press release, which is supported by 53 other stakeholders.
The week provides information about restrictions on the marketing of industrially produced infant formula and follow-on formula. This is strictly regulated by law at EU level so that professionals can provide independent advice and families can make informed decisions. During World Breastfeeding Week, breastfeeding support organisations across Germany provide information about the applicable regulations and ways to avoid conflicts of interest when advising parents.
The AGF is a member of the breastfeeding stakeholder network within the ‘Healthy Start to Life’ network. The network provides information and expertise for all those who advise on breastfeeding, as well as information material for families.
The Healthy Start to Life network is accompanying World Breastfeeding Week on its Instagram channel gesund.ins.leben with daily posts and community campaigns that promote breastfeeding. Among other things, a BZfE lunchtime talk entitled ‘Advertising for breast milk substitutes: what is allowed and what is not?’ will take place on 2 October. This will address the following questions: Why are there advertising restrictions for breast milk substitutes? What legal regulations are in place, and what can be done on a voluntary basis? How can the regulations be effectively implemented in clinics and practices? A plenary discussion will round off the lunchtime talk. This talk will be in German language only.
