COFACE Families Europe

Berlin, 26 September 2024 – Sven Iversen, director of the German National Association of Family Organisations (AGF), was re-elected as Vice President of COFACE Families Europe on 26 September 2024. The General Assembly and other COFACE committee meetings took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 24 to 26 September 20024, accompanied by an international symposium on the topic of ‘Work-Life Balance’.

The COFACE Presidium is led by the newly elected President Antonia Torrens from Greece, who was previously Vice President. She replaces Annemie Drieskens from Belgium, who successfully represented the association for many years. In addition to Sven Iversen, Treasurer Sylvia Stanic from Croatia was also re-elected. Amaia Echevarria from Spain was newly elected to the board and will serve as second vice-president in the future.

A central topic of the COFACE committee meetings was the adoption of various strategic documents. The ‘Digitalisation Principles’ and the ‘Charter for Family Carers’ were updated and adopted. A new position paper on quality in early childhood education and care (ECEC) was discussed in detail and will soon be finally adopted and published. As a further focus of its future work, COFACE-Families Europe plans to devote more attention to the effects of climate change on families and the development of family-friendly climate policies.

On 25 September 2024, a conference was held on the topic of ‘Work-Life Balance Strategies in Family Policy’. This event provided a platform for representatives of organisations and ministries of European states to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions for reconciling family and working life. The annual meeting of representatives from the ministries of European states, initiated and moderated by COFACE, also took place. Fifteen states took part in the meeting.
