On 27 September 2022, COFACE – Families Europe and the AGF jointly organised an expert discussion on the implementation of the EU Child Guarantee / Child Gurantee in various European countries. Government and civil society representatives from 17 European countries took part. The event focused on the exchange of information on the status of the implementation of the Child Guarantee in the different countries.
In summer 2021, the EU Member States decided to introduce the “European Child Guarantee”. This aims to support poor children and children at risk of poverty in the EU. With the Child Guarantee, the European member states are to present an assessment of the situation of children with regard to the different thematic priorities and take effective measures. The implementation is thus mainly at the national level. For this purpose, the governments of the member states are to present national action plans for implementation.
At the European expert meeting in Berlin, the status of the national action plans, the thematic focal points and the approach to developing the national measures were discussed. Exemplary contributions came from Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain and Sweden. A presentation from the European Commission provided a comparative overview.
For Germany, Ekin Deligöz (Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and National Coordinator for the implementation of the EU Child Guarantee) and Dr. Martina Kottmann (Head of the Department responsible for the implementation of the Child Guarantee at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth) presented the plans of the Federal Government.
